An Awesome Solution for Adult Acne

By Ana Glow

Adult acne isn't any easier an experience than the acne you dealt with as a teenager. Sometimes it can even feel a lot worse because you might have thought you could avoid getting pimples as an adult. Of course, there isn't any real need for despair because there are a lot of treatments for adult acne and this article can introduce you to some of them.

Your very first instinct when you notice adult acne show up is probably to visit your pharmacy and buy an over the counter medication for acne. Sometimes these products, especially those which contain benzoyl peroxide are very helpful in killing the bacteria that are usually responsible for acne. A lot of these products, however, are designed more for fighting teenage acne and not adult acne. Sometimes the two aren't really all that different and that means that the products can be used to get the same good results. Still, while teenage acne is typically caused by oily skin, adults usually have combination or dry skin and that means that most of the common acne medications will just dry out your skin even further. This is why it is better to see a dermatologist for acne medication when you are an adult so that you can make sure you're getting a medication for the right sort of skin.

If you can find an actual aloe vera plant, the best approach is to cut it open and rub the pieces on your face. If this isn't completely possible, there are lots of good pure aloe vera products that can be nearly as good. Aloe vera juice is full of additional benefits and drinking the juice helps your insides as well as your outsides. A great way to treat acne scars you might have gotten (either as an adult or a teenager) is laser skin resurfacing. This process is typically used to counteract the effects that aging has on the skin but it has also proven useful in removing scars. Lasers are used to take the layer of skin with the scars and replace it with a new layer of skin that is not scarred. Obviously, the new skin takes time to grow in and while you wait you might have to endure some irritation, discomfort and redness. Yet when it does come in, it should be free of scars. If you've got lots of scarring, you might need to go through two or three sessions but most of the time a single session is sufficient. It is important to ask your doctor whether or not laser skin resurfacing is a good option for you to pursue.

Adult acne, whether men or women suffer from it, can be aided with dong quai. This is an herb that's not usually applied directly to the skin, but rather taken as a powder, pill or capsule. It's also good to make use of the herbs that are used in the Indian Ayurvedic healing tradition. Guggul is an herb that is usually recommended by the Ayurvedic doctors to help with arthritis and cholesterol levels and it has also proved to be helpful for the skin.

If you suffer from severe acne, you should pay a visit to your dermatologist. There are lots of home cures and over the counter medications for acne but sometimes these aren't enough. After an examination the doctor will write a prescription for the medication that will be best for your particular condition. A dermatologist can also remove your pimples during your visit to his or her office. While people do this at home with tweezers, it's much safer and more effective when done by a trained professional who has both expertise and the right equipment. Their instruments are sterilized which means that you won't have to worry about accidental infection. Beyond this, your dermatologist might recommend other treatments like laser treatments. There are all sorts of ways to get rid of your adult acne, including the options we've discussed in this article. Take stock of the different factors in your life like your diet, your skin care products and cosmetics, etc to see if any of those things could be contributing to the problem you are facing with acne. Adult acne is absolutely annoying but it can be cured.
