As anyone who suffers from acne knows, it is a very painful and embarrassing ailment. It's hard to explain to non-sufferers how much it affects your life and how hard you pray for it to go away. I was very lucky, I found a natural cure that worked for me. You can find out what it is from my website. The link is at the bottom of the article. This feature is not about curing acne. Instead I want to talk about how best to treat the symptoms to make life with acne more bearable.

Try not to wash the worst areas of acne if you can avoid it more than once or twice a day. When you wash your skin more frequently it can exacerbate the symptoms and make the acne worse. Very hot or very cold water is bad for your skin, so use only very mild soap and warm water.

Don't try to clean out blackheads or squeeze spots. This may well make them worse and might cause lasting scarring. If you can, steer clear of make-up and cosmetics and if you do have to use some, scrape it all off before getting into bed at night.

It is important that you keep your hair clean. Hair can be a major irritant to skin ailments. If the hair is quite long, try and keep it from touching your acne. If you get sweaty, it's important that you shower as quickly as you can afterwards, otherwise the perspiration will act as an irritant to your skin.

Scarring can occasionally happen as a result of acne. This usually occurs when nodules and cysts erupt and cause harm to the surrounding skin. Scarring can also occur if you interfere with your spots, so it is important not to do this. To paraphrase Pink Floyd: leave those spots alone!

The internet is full of so-called home remedies supposed to make your acne a thing of the past. These include applying various concoctions made from clove oil, lettuce water, lime and lemon wedges, tomatoes and lots of other things I wouldn't apply to my cat's paws, never mind my skin. I urge you to be very careful. In fact, I wouldn't do any of these things without it being part of an overall natural treatment process.
