Did you know you can clear up your acne with lemon juice? Why should you try it? Compared with commercial products lemons are downright cheap. Your local market will have lemons in the produce section. You can experiment with one lemon and see if it works for you. Juice it and keep the juice in the fridge. In addition lemon juice is simple to apply. Just use a cotton ball to apply it to your skin.

Last but not least lemons are very good at treating acne. Lemons have a naturally occurring alpha hydroxy acid. Alpha hydroxy acid is the primary ingredient in most store bought acne treatments. Lemons also have ascorbic acid which is vitamin C. Vitamin C is often used topically on scars. Lemon juice exfoliates the skin and penetrates the pores.

I've used many home remedies in the past. Ammonia easily bonds with oils. Ammonia does a great job of cleaning oil on household surfaces, dirt on your hands and neutralizes poison ivy on your skin. The only thing it did was make my skin dry. The acne persisted. I've even tried mineral spirits that you would use clean oil based paint brushes. Again, it effectively removed the oils and dried my skin, but didn't do much for acne. Finally I found a solution in lemon juice.

I apply the lemon juice to my face at night. There are a couple of good reasons for doing it at night. Lemon juice will leave your face feeling sticky. Lemon juice may darken the skin when exposed to sunlight. The invisible ink trick relies on lemon juice darkening with heat. Heat would make the lemon juice writing appear. I don't want the lemon juice on my face have a similar reaction in the sun. The is the opposite effect of apply the juice to scars to lighten them.

I find that lemon juice does mildly irritate the skin. Generally, my hide is tough and not bothered by such things. Still, when I apply lemon juice it manages to sting. Open wounds are especially painful. Some people can only tolerate it for a short time and in those cases you can wash it off with water after ten minutes. Stinging the skin is the only side effect I experience. People have experienced discoloration and rashes from it. Apply the juice to small part of skin to see how the skin reacts. That way you can see how your skin reacts before you apply it to your whole face.

My experience with lemon juice has been very good. For example, I had a whitehead appear on my cheek. I applied lemon juice to it and by morning it was gone. I can't think of any other treatment that worked so well.
